Two words which pose problems to students of English are ‘illegible’ and ‘eligible’.
The word ‘illegible’ means ‘difficult to decipher or read’. The sentence below will make it clear to readers.
His handwriting is illegible as I can’t read what he is trying to say.
On the other hand, the word ‘eligible’ means ‘qualified’. Let us look at the following sentence.
Those who are eligible can apply for the job advertised.
It means those people who have the required qualifications and experience can apply for the job.
